In the Means 14, a passageway unread from the Heiberg, in this a line from text that requires detailed restoration, demonstrates Archimedes covers unlimited thousands away from mathematical agencies by the setting him or her in a single-to-you to communication. One should maybe not install a lot of pros to this flow because the if it try an anticipation of contemporary put-theoretic treatments for infinities. The new disperse contributes absolutely nothing to the fresh explicit character out of Strategy 14, and in any situation analogous has is available additional Archimedes, for instance inside Pappus, Collectio IV.34. He computed the amount from a fields while the cuatro⁄3πr3, and that away from a tube of the identical peak and you can diameter as the 2πr3. The exterior urban area try 4πr2 to your fields, and you can 6πr2 to the tube (along with its a few basics). Hence, as it happens the sphere has an amount equal to two-thirds compared to the new cylinder, and you will a skin area and equivalent to a few-thirds regarding the fresh tube.
